Losing weight on a JD G

Trying to lost as much weight on a 50 model G pretty fast for a pull, and I am not wanting to tie up a lot of money. Tractor has 16.9 38's on 16" pressed wheels, and no rollomatic front end. Tractor with me on it weighs about 5220, would like to get it in 5000 lb. class. All the lift and PTO is still in it. I have a mag on it so the battery can be removed to help with this cause. Any ideas?

if your G has any guts, don't waste your time going to 5000lb. i pull mine in 2nd gear and it always spins out that light.

There are several "bolt-ons" that can be removed. I'd check on whether or not aluminum flat-backs can be used before spending the money on that. Removing the Power-Trol valve assembly will save a good chunk. A plate can be made to cover the holes pretty easily. Removing the rockshafts, rockshaft cylinder, etc will also dump a good chunk in short order. Do you still have the headlight bracket on it? That's probably another 15 lbs or so. Leaving the main fuel tank empty and just running out of the gas starting tank is an option, but they don't hold much, so you'll have to keep an eye on that. I've seen guys pull one front wheel off too, but that may not be allowed as a safety issue. Gutting the Power-Trol housing down alone should get you darn near there. You could probably also get away with draining a few gallons of gear oil out of the back. The question is whether or not you're going to be able to hook up once you're that light.

buy a flatback and that ought to do it, make sure it's alum.

Many Pulls allow a 10% overage, so you may not need to lose any weight.
