I am interested in getting antique tractor pulling going in the Spokane area. I want to build a sled suitable for small tractors like Cubs up to 40 or 50 horse tractors. I have seen some pretty poorly done ones and some that are way over built. I need to know the basics as to what works. How much movable weight, foot print area of the skid or plate?. Any good advice for this would be helpfull.

as a starting point you are going to need a little more than twice the weight of heaviest tractor to be pulled. example 10,000 lb. tractor needs 20,00 plus lbs to stop it.all 20,00 lbs must be usable .pan area will probably be determined more by making weight usable.we made ours 6' wide and 12' long. our hinge is 8' from front of pan . hope this helps email if more needed .Paul

The sled you built, is it a truck conversion or a pull back type? I have an old truck i have thought about converting to a skid to play with in the back yard. Do you have any pictures or ideas would be helpful. Thanks

search new pulling sled in this forum you will see photo it now has paint and will be self propelled next year Paul

I would not recommend building a truck sled as they can be difficult to start, and some people may say you were steering it. And besides most major organizations have started to outlaw them for these reasons.
