I had someone (computer illiterate) ask me what the going bore/strokes are for the JD A"s being built these days. He"s looking for 2 sizes...

1. What are the upper limits?
2. What size is a good balance of power and life expectancy?

And relative costs and HP of each.

Thanks in advance, Ray

There are several 6.750 bore A's being built or have been built recently. Put a 9.250 crank behind it for 662ci. With the big bore, a 3.000" pin is a good idea. By the time you put a good Heisler head on it (or spend a boat load to buy a JWMS head and then fix it so its worth a crap), you could probably spend $7000ish on this combo. Should make probably in the 120hp range or so. Also comes w/ the headache of possibly not holding water and sooner or later, it will probably break a crank. Mine is 6.750x9.370 on a 2.750 pin and I will admit it is probably a grenade w/ the pin half way pulled. How long it an engine lasts depends on how it is treated ie: lugged down a lot, compression, if its detonated all the time, etc.

OR

A 6.125 power block with a 9.250ish crank should aproach the 100hp mark for a couple grand less, with a lot less headache. If it is done right, it should be ALMOST bulletproof.
