I'm trying to hook up a kill switch on a '38 unstyled JD G. There are no outside posts on the magneto. I pulled the cover and can't figure out what would be the negative side. HELP!!!

Thanks a million

Ollie, the way to kill the spark on a magneto is to dead ground the points to the mags metallic case. On some mags like a Wico X Series, they had that lil external kill switch stud used to short out for the kill function. If your mag dont have that you need to get a wire into it somewhere thats attached to the points (same place condensor is attached) and have it in series with a normally open pull safety switch (like an electric trailer brake safety switch) and the other end tied to ground, preferably the mags metal frame.

John T,

that answers my question. It is a Wico C series, with no external stud. I got it figured out now. Thanks.

Ollie, if that G has been souped up and youre running real high compression??? and youre a serious puller, it would need either a high performance Mag like Robert Beaver (Roberts Carb Repair in Spencer Iowa) n some others (Magneeders or McDonald Ignition) build or better yet a battery powered electronic ignition. If youre just messing around at stock pulling and arent at super high compressions the Wico C mag will likely produce a sufficient spark, but not as good a Wico X mag with a hot coil (also available from Roberts n the others)

Good luck, John T

If you want a WicoX from Roberts ive got one! I have no choice to go to the Electronic System because of the fact that im at 10:1 ratio. Let me know if you want a very high power mag.

What does a mag like that run? I'm wondering if it would justify the cost just for a few antique pulls a year. Thanks
