M carb on H

I pull a Farmall H in the 4000 and the 4500 classes and i have a problem with not getting enough gas. I was wanting to put an M carb on it . Would an M carb be to big and make it run to rich or would it work fine??

I agree with Sid, The M carb's linkage is different than the H, so you have to modify your H linkage or else you will not be able to idle down and you will not get all the RPMs untill the modification is made. I put an M carb on my H and got too much gas--I was constantly fouling plugs with black junk--and then I went back to my H carb and drilled 4 sizes bigger and I am well pleased. I am stock bore and stroke with 150 lbs. compression. After dynoing and not being able to back the main screw out till the HP droped, I probably will go 1 or 2 sizes bigger on the jet.

An M carb will not fit on an H manifold. You will need a manifold off of a SH-350 or an aftermarket one. I am assuming you are still usingthe stock H carb. If so, have you drilled out the main jet at all? If not, drill it out 3 sizes larger that it is now with a numbered bit and see if you get enough fuel then. If you still need more fuel, drill the jet out again but only increase the bit size by one each time till you get the amount of fuel you are looking for. I wouldn't go any bigger that 5 or 6 sizes larger.

Why are you thinking you are not getting enough fuel? Please explain.
