Where can I get a coppper head gasket for a late A? I tried the 60 and the A gasket and neither seem to hold very long.

I use FelPro headgaskets, and have never had a problem. I used to blow a Deere gasket about once a year. Part # is 7744SBX, and should be about $20 thru your local auto parts store. I paint with aluminum paint and put it on wet. Mike

Pullin A, the stock head gaskets will leak on these tractors when the tractor starts to warm up. This was addressed by a Deere Service Bulletin several years ago. The way to make these gaskets hold (even under much higher than stock compression) is to put #3 Permatex (the soft, brush on kind) on the outside vertical rails of the gasket (which is where they always seep). Then, torque the head in 10 ft./lb. increments until you get to 150 ft./lbs. and when the tractor is warm recheck it. Torquing at the small increment is crucial in maintaining an even torque on these gaskets. I have installed several of these this way in late A/60 tractors and have yet to have one leak. Hope this helps. Mike

Where does it keep blowing out at? I made one for an A JD earlier this year, but cant remember which block it was for,,, Nor, do I know if they are the same gasket for all of the blocks,,, If you do use a copper gasket, keep it thick, dont use a thinner than stock gasket on these engines, thicker is better so it will hold in place easier. May want to try a Victor Gasket in the A. Otherwise if you are set on copper, try Lubbock Gaskets @ 806-763-2801.

There is a fellow in one of the midwestern states that makes them up custom. I got one for my Super M from him last year. I'll try to look up his info and post it soon.

Give me a bit longer as my wife just had surgery and I am mostly busy taking care of her. She is going to be fine but our pulling season may be over.
