my brother and I are tinkering with pulling. We built a sucessful 1066 and now we need to rebuild a 2510 (water in oil). We want to keep it legal for of the farm class - so no turbo. I was hoping one of you would know what we can do, or where to go to find out.

Thanks!!

You will have to take the WTW route. The 5210/2520 were the 3010/3020/4030 chassis with an underized Dubuque engine installed. The 2510/2520 chassis are in high demand from both collectors and owners of dead 3010/3020's. The balancer shaft engine used in the 3010/3020 is a fright for price to rebuild. Everbody wants the 2510/2520 bellhousing and front engine mounts to transplant a cheap and common as dirt Dubuque engine into the 3010/3020.

The first thing to do is get a Dubuque 276 engine as used in a 2630 or 2640 tractor and start with it. The 276 will bolt in the 2510 without hardly any modification, (I have done it) A little clearance work required in the inside / bottom of oil pan is necessary to make number four rod bolt clear bottom of pan. It will out perform any non turbo stock 3020 any day of the week at stock settings. This engine is a long stroke engine and is a very high torque engine. With a turbo it would have allot more potential. The only other alteration that I had to do was spring one steering line for vent tube clearance and grind corner of oil cooler fitting for frame clearance. You will not be disappointed with the long stroke (5 inch) performance of the 276 engine. Go for it! DW

Is it a diesel? Guess I've never seen a 2510 puller, but anything is possible. Might be an uphill battle, as you can get other tractors with quite a bit more horsepower just as light.

There's one around me that pulls 7500 farm stock and does pretty good with it. I heard it had an engine swap, and I want to say it's a 3010 engine but that might be wrong. I guess it could be what WTW was talking about too. I know everytime I see it pull I think, it doesn't look like that little tractor should do that good!

Most of the New Gens I've seen pull have done pretty well. As long as the guys can get them hooked and keep them hooked, they have more than enough gear to go a long ways.
