I have a hand start unstyled A. I am thinking about a power block and a 8 1/2 or 9 inch stroke. My question is am I still going to be able to crank it over by hand or am I going to have to convert it to electric start. Or would it be easier to find a older styled tractor already with electric start.

What style of reduction starter fits the late A with the starter underneath?

If you put petcocks in the power block, and you are a big guy, you may be able to crank it. I believe you will find that hand cranking that size of engine will get old very quickly. The top cover and flywheel from an early styled A will bolt right on an unstyled.

Convert is right! The factory starter on my G would barely crank a 8.75" stroke! I put a gear reduction starter on and if you convert I would recommend doing that. There is one off of a New Holland loader (I believe that's what it's off of) that is a direct bolt up.
