what is the best fix for a super 88 head that doesnt line up with the intake/exhaust runners, the whole manifold just seems to be off center badly, can you just stay with the existing dowel pins, or reset them to split up the difference? what do you oliver guys do in this situation? any input is appreciated. Is there enough casting to just bore the whole thing off centered?

Something isn't right---the dowel pins and the exhaust manifold should line up perfectly. The intake manifold is then bolted in the middle of the exhaust manifold with 4 capscrews (heat chamber). If the exhaust manifold was cracked and re-welded, it may have been welded off. Not sure what to tell you. There isn't much meat in the exhaust manifold, but these were oversized anyway. There is meat in the intake to remove, but it is time consuming.

Is it possible the intake manifold is from the smaller family of six cylinders such as the 77, 770, 1550 and 1555? This would be off roughly 3/4" on each end port.

The manifold looks almost new and the intake has the bigger size hole for the bigger carb, 1650 size, I will look again to see if it is a smaller manifold, but could it really physically fit on an 88?

The bolt pattern between the heat riser on the exhaust and intake manifolds if the same between the 88 series manifolds and the 77 series manifolds. This means they can be bolted together. You can wind up with misalignment between the face s of the intake and exhaust runners on the manifolds. The 770, 1550 and 1555 all used the larger carb mounting flange and matches the 880, 1600, 1650 and 1655.

How much miss alignment do you have on the end ports?

Some of the aftermarket intakes will not line up all that good. They are not cast as good being the dowel pin locations are off ever so slightly. This can make the whole thing misalign by as much as a quarter inch. The 77-1555 intakes all have the same mounting for the carb. Once you get to the LATE super 77 to 1555 you have the larger intake rummers. All the aftermarket intakes I have seen have the larger runners.
