I have a JD book that says that JD made a crank that had a 1/4" longer stroke for the styled A.
My question is, will one of these cranks fit into a 38 Unstyled A and if so what year tractors were the produced?

I think what ever information you are reading may be misleading you. Fact is all unstyled and the first year (1939) model styled "A's" had a 6.5" stroke. All styled "A's" 1940 and newer had a 6.75 stroke. There were two different styled cranks used in the styled tractors with the 6.75 stroke. The first crank was used in the 1940 through 1946 models and is the crank that will fit your tractor without modification and will not change any outside appearance. You will have to use the later rods as crank rod journals are bigger. The next crank was used in models 1947 through 1952. these can be made work with modifications. You could reuse your old rods and have the later crank journal offset ground to fit them and gain another .250 stroke. Good Luck, DW
