When i raced go karts a few years back, we had a remote cable that we used to enrichen the motor at about the middle of the straightaway or pulling out of a turn. Anyway it was only used at full throttle high rpm. Would this work on a tractor carb at full throttle, open governor to dump fuel to the carb for more power at full rpm. Probably not, just ask'in..... H

there are only two ways this would work on a go cart . 1.alcohol as a fuel. alcohol caries an oxygen molocule that means it is not sensitive as far as overfueling as a gasoline fueled engine is more especially at high rpm may make more power. 2. a gasoline engine at high rpm may have tendancy to lean out at top end or may need some extra fuel to help keep it cool on long hard high rpm runs. tractors run at low rpm and this should not be a problem ever. on gas engines peak performance will be at the lean side.l
lean is hot rich is cold. so duping more fuel will make it cold( less power).Paul

Your idea makes sence if you did not have the optimum carb and governor setup. If a pulling tractor is set up correctly, when it is under load, richer or leaner will only hurt your h.p. If you are full throttle under load, your governor should open your butterfly all the way and the carb should be adjusted to give as much gas as it can burn with the amount of air sucked in. Anything more or less hurts. But hey, many tractors are not set up optimally so ya never know. I'm no genious, but if you are sucking in a certain amount of air, you can only burn a certain amount of fuel. In AC's example, the windshield washer tank idea would work if your carb was not able to supply the maximum amount of fuel with the current air volume.

You could do it. Ever see the shut off switches used on the combines and the 06 series IH gassers with the 6 cyl carbs? You could set the main jet adjustment, by how far you screw in the switch, in the off postion, then hook up a wire to open the switch to allow more fuel through the main jet. It would take some trial and error to get it the way you want, but thats how I would try to attempt it. Chad

The 8N is NOT a good tractor for pulling... for too many reasons to talk about here. However it does have an aftermarket attachment that is similar to what you describe.

It's called a Dowden foot feed. Here is a link to someone remanufacturing them for the 8N. >Link

Idea>Link is that your hand throttle really runs the governor which in turn runs the carb. If you have an ideal governor set up (i.e. fast response) then this sort of thing is not needed. However, most of us don't and under less than ideal conditions this foot feed allows you to "goose" the engine a little when under heavy load. Not a bad idea for old iron. Don't think they would allow this in a pull though.

Kinda like the 60"s "speed secret" that guys used to do..fill the windshield washer res. with gas, and run the tube into the carb. Hit the button for a little more at wide open throttle. Don"t know if it really worked. I have seen that plumming on a tractor in Ohio...

Sign your posts,Einstein, let us know where ya' pull, and myself and AC would be happy to load up and come and play with you.Two packs of Winstons a day for the last 30 years sort-a limit my lung capacity, and severe arthritus in both knee's and one shoulder kinda limit my range of motion, but I'd be happy to be there just in case you brought a gun to a knife fight with AC.However,my best guess is that the only type of pulling that you do is in the privacy of your bedroom in your mommy and daddy's mobile home.Send me an E-mail if you ever grow a pair. Last time I called another puller an idiot, my tractor pulled 10 feet more than usual. Just a little performance tip. Name calling = more horsepower. Haha.

If you have something to say to me, start your own topic bashing me, instead of cluttering up other's topics. That would be the manly thing to do, but oops, I forgot, it's you I'm dealing with.
Better yet, say it to my face tomorrow at Prarieville. I have a broken hand, and 2 broken fingers, but I figure I can still shut you up, or break the other trying. And yes, let me say it for you to save you the energy (since you must be exhauseted after spending all this energy on me) "I'm an idiot"...Have a good day!...hehe..

Delton Michigan, 1/2 mile west of M 37 on Milo Road. I'll be there from about 10 till at least 5. I have a red Ford f 250 tied to a 28 foot H&H gooseneck. I'm 6'0 230. Come and find me. IS that fair enough? I didn't start anything. I simply asked Jerry Lagod what qualified him as the local SSD expert. He or you or whoever weasled around the questions, like Bill Clinton at a truth telling contest. JUST like you have been doing. I could care less who Jerry is. I could care less who you are. What I enquired about didn't really have much to do with tractors, but more with ethics I know you are having fun, young man, but you can't kid a kidder. Now go back to popping pimples in your bathroom mirror. And if you are an adult, for Pete's sake, GROW UP. I really don't care what you post. Truthfully, I am amazed at the total lack of responsibility that you have displayed. Kinda makes America's youth look bad. I'm done answering your little posts, and your grade school one sentence comebacks. I hope you have fun. Come up and see me. My tractor isn't much to look at if it even starts and comes off the trailer, my truck is rusty, and I am injured and feel like a decrepid. However, I'm a damn site better man than you have proven yourself to be. Have fun. AC...Oh yeah, "I am an idiot"

Good job at attempting to keep these brain-dead moroons in check(have to spell it that way or they won't let me post). You'll NEVER find out who this coward is because he evidently was not blessed with a set of nads at birth. Please be assured that his(or hers,or both if he/she is the morphadite that we all assume that he/she truely is)nads will never sprout, therefore he/she will forever be lacking the testosterone required to sign his/her posts. And on another note, to the nuttless, guttless wonder:I too may be classified as an idiot,BUT,in my own defence,I am blessed(or sometimes burdened)with a HUGE set of testies.I will always be ready, willing and most importantly, able to back up anything I say or type. Keep up the good work,Mister C. And to you,mister/misses nad lacker, keep on typing,as we all need someone to laugh at. Take care all, Marty
