M Vs Super M Motor

I found a super M short block and was wondering if there was a difference in stroke from a regular M. I know the bore is bigger but the cranks each have different numbers. I will buy it regardless so i can slowly build up a second motor. Thanks for any help.

If it has the cam in the block too, thats good!!! its a better cam than the old M's had. find a SM-450 gas head to match the cam, and you have a great set up from a factory set up. The blocks are bigger in bore, the SM-450's had a 4-1/4 block bore with no sleeves, and the Ms were 4-1/8. I just built a 320 cube Super M, just added stroke, made 92 hp at 215 psi of compression. Made a solid 87 hp on ordianry Amoco Ultimate 93 octane. Hope this helps. Chad

The stroke is the same. Super Ms and late production Ms used a larger crank journal and thinner bearing inserts.

Is the main journals bigger or the rod journals? If the rod journals were bigger i thought about offset grinding the rod journals to fit my smaller M rods.

Both are bigger VS the M. its not enough to give it much to offset grind them. ChadS
