I received my copy the other day. On the cover they have a picture of a JD pulling a Louisville,
Ky. Good picture but isn't this magazine supposed to be about antique & classic tractors?
If i wanted to see and read about the newer pullers i would subcribe to magazines like the puller.

It is allot better than all the NATPA BS that most people could care less about anyway. Any article is better than a bunch of past pull results and some NATPA politician telling the world how great they think they are. If they don't get some more / better material beside results and NATPA garbage, I am going to let my subscription run out. Nothing wrong with the smoker tractor articles and stories. I find them informative and enjoyable articles to read. I wish they would do more on them. By the way I do and have pulled antiques for over twenty years. Nothing wrong with both types of pulling as long as they keep it to tractor pulling! There is other good antique tractor and pulling publications out there that I enjoy like "Old Power Pride" check it out. Change is good!

The Hook has MANY stories of different pulling clubs. They cover USAP and NATPA both. NATPA is the best thing going right now for antique pulling. Many clubs throughout the US say, NATPA rules or similar. I like both clubs, but NATPA is that, National, or as close as you can get. Eastern Ohio winter pulls to Colorado, and at one time Texas and Florida (those were not added again for different reasons), USAP has a pull every month at Princeton, IN. YAHOO! If The Hook doesn't meet your specs, the start your own magazine. There's a new one called Old Pride or something. There you can read about his buddy LW in every issue. YAHOO again!

LW is a tech writer for the magazine. He does build a bad Moline. Why don't you bring one of yours down and try him out? I also can't see why you have a beef with LW. I do understand that he builds engines, but it doesn't cut into your business. You have stomped on Denny's and Chads for a long time. You are not the only one that can build a carb., So why don't you go on and tell everyone who you are, before I do!

He's just mad because he sits in his one car garage rebuilding carbs and recurving dist. and hasn't pulled anything but his wennie in years. I would call it professional jealousy but he's to scared to leave his name he wants everyone to think he's a nice guy.Ain't that right MATT?

I think I already read this line of BS in the HOOK! RAH RAH RAH!!! It "Old Power Pride" and I do already get it. It's all about what ever jerks your chain! As long as it pays I am sure either magazine would be happy to publish any tractor related article. If you want to read interesting articles get "OLD POWER PRIDE. If you want NATPA coverage and politics get the HOOK if you want both get both. Let the subscribers make their own choice.

I hear where you are coming from, but have you ever written a story for them or even bothered to call or email with a story idea. The gang at THE HOOK work hard, traveling and putting stories together.
I also would like to see more stories in there, features on tractors, pullers and the such, but if noone tells them what they want to read, then how are they suppose to put something different in there.
I have written a few stories about our pulling club--probably no one else likes to read about it but our pullers loved seeing their photos and results in a national magazine. We have also had one of our pullers on the front cover--it was a big deal to him!!!
My suggestion, if you don't want to write it yourself and send it in, then at least (even if it is on this forum) get some ideas you would like to read about so they can work on different stories.
It seems so easy to gripe and complain about this and that in pulling and ruin the sport, but it would be easier and better for the sport of Antique Pulling if everyone would take a positive outlook and do things to make it BETTER!!!
Grandma always said, "If you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all". I'll get off my soap box for the day!!!

Sounds like the truth hurts! Wipe your eyes and get over it. If people don't let others know what they don't like, things never change either. Where I come from they call it constructive criticism. Take it how ever you like. It's still a free world last time I checked! By the way I have also written some articles for different magazines that have been published. I do not have anything against the Hook or the people that produce it, they are good folks. Just stating the facts and the way I and allot of others see it. If Dana thinks she can make a living off NATPA member / subscribers alone she will do just fine the way it is now. I really do think she is smarter than that as that is why you are seeing the diversification with the stories / articles on the newer / smoker tractors. I hope we see allot more of it.

It's all about revenue as anybody that has been around pulling knows in most cases antiques alone will not carry the show / pay the bills so other means have to be considered to support it. The magazine business may not be any different!! It's all about money and good business sense. Why not cater to two audiences and possibly run a business at a profit. You don't have to read the parts you don't like. A little extra / verity is allot better than nothing!!

I pull a 930 Case in a single turbo diesel class. It is 40 years old. Isnt that old enough to be considered "classic" heck a 40 year old car is considered an antique. just admit it, your older than you think!!!

I really have to agree. I think 25 years determines an antique in allot of cases. My turbo tractor is also 35 years old. That's is allot older than these so called antiques of today were way back when most of them were classified "antiques". I do believe in time you will see these newer "antique" tractors / classes get more popular. Probably a classification of there own but it will happen.

Thank you for hiding behind your name, the fact still remains I don"t care how old your tractor is if it has a turbo/blower it is NOT antique.I appreciate a 1206 as much as the next person that does not mean it belongs on the cover of an antique magazine.
