I've watched many pulls but I don't have a tractor to pull yet so this is more of an acedemic question and trying to understand the physics. How is the tractor hitch length determined? I know.. "so many" inches to the rear of the axel... but I am interested in the finer points... Specifically, if the tractor front end is lower or higher, do the tech committees measure from a vertical line dropped from the center of the axel centerline or from some reference point on the tractor that would normally be the center of the axel if it were level.

I like the front end to be lower. On my 460,, I put the front edge of the furthest point forward on the frame rail,, 1 inch below the hitch height, front frame from the ground to the bottom edge is 18-3/4to19 inches off the ground. I am thinking it would create more of an upwards draft pull of the drawbar hitch point, pulls harder upwards on the chain of the sled pan, creating more of a lift action from the hook point. Front end being lower,,, would also enhance this motion, lower the front height, the more pull it will have when the front does actually come up. Least,, that is what Im experementing with,,,,, Chad
