Looking at a 450 block for a W-40. Did IH ever make a steel crank for a 372/450 or 501 motor? What head works best? Do you gain that much more in room in a 501 as to a 450 block for bore and stroke? Does the 501 hook up as easy as a 450 block in the tractor? I'm thinking 4 7/8 or 4 15/16 bore X 7 1/4 7 1/2 crank. Like I said, all that was given to me was a bare block. Chad S. It's your time to shine Buddy! Thanks!

How big are we going to make this engine? I assume with a name like "bigmotors", it'll have some size to it!!

I hope this doesn't post three times. Bigmotors you need to put two JD G power blocks on your UB. They work in Div IV on JD's and would be a lot bigger than outlawed 8oo's. That would make a BIG!!!!! !!!!MOTOR.

Hey Bigmotors didn"t IHC build that big motor you have in your Studebaker truck? Not sure it would pass inspection in a W-40.

You wont run water in it with that big of bore. Far as I know, anywhere a 450Rd was bolted, the 501 would bolt in too. Ive been told that the cam is in a different location in the 501. Build something with some reliability in mind, I know of one 501 RD out to 4.75 bore, Last I heard it was leaking. But, they are building some impressive RD engines that put out some serious HP with less cubes. Only RD that really sticks out in my mind as for what Ive seen on the tracks, is Jim Hutson out of ILL. Havent seen a RD powered 60 series Farmall pull yet to know how they like those chassis,,, but Hutsons W40 aint no slouch in my opinion. Id hold out for a 501 complete, if the conversion is in your plans. They are out there, probably if you ask round on here, youll find a couple 450-501 parts and engines few pullers have sitting round. Chad

That's a good deal. You could scrap the rest of the truck and have little left in the motor..SPEAKING OF WHICH, how is yours coming, and did you decide to sell your H hitch?...AC

Good luck! New mains are almost impossible to find! I think thats the main reason you do not see more out there pulling? best bet is to find some used and have them rebabited?

I called Sealed Power and the listing is "obsolete" and there are no sets in stock...I can get all the specs of the mains, I think, through another catalogue. WK4036, I'll see what I can find....AC
