I'm getting some time on a dyno tommorow night with my H Farmall. I need some instruction on how to best dial in the carb, etc... My rebuild only has a few hours on the motor, and my 4th cylinder's rings have not fully seated. I am hoping to gain some compression. Please give any tips that may make this valuable time more usefull when I get to pull this summer. Thanks.

Make sure its warmed up, the tractor, and the dyno, pto rpms must go above 540 (no load) to be able to pull the engine down to 540,, 610-625 is plenty fast. Put a lite load on it at first, bout 1/2 throttle, maybe 3 or 4 minutes, then pull it down a bit harder with the dyno, if its running on all 4, proceed,,, Set the timing at 540, have the dyno operator face the guage to you, and set the timing to where it makes peak HP. Tighten the distributor, and dont move it. That part, is basicly done. The carb, set it at 540 as well, if you can back the main load adjustment screw out, and be able to drop HP, then it is jetted correctly, and can be set for maximum output, or,, its getting enough gas. if the engine is pretty fresh, Id think about retorque the head, double check it, then reset your valve lash, peak compression on the guage, for each cyl,,, good luck,,, Ill be in the shop bout all day tommorrow if you got a question,, ChadS
