Hey Chad, what is our best option for a cam for my farmall 300. I am currently rebuilding my motor and plan to run 175 pistion, and sleeves, Would you reccomend firecreater ( or M&W's )domed pistions?I am going to use my stock head, is there any other suggestions that you could give me to gain more hp. Ya know, like adding chrome? ha ha!!

Most common piston sold for the 300 is a firecrater style, unless ordered from IH. Then, you may find stepped head pistons that will be higher compression VS a firecrater. Firecraters are OK, they do help with torque due to its different burn created byt the turbulence from the firecrater. Keep the stock 300-350 cam in it, aint much better outhere unless your turning higher rpms. The science was there on the design of the SH-350 engines, they were low compression to keep fuel economy in the fields, but,, add compression,, and it will really come to life. I like aluminum, rather than chrome,,,, Dont know why,, just do,,,,, LOL! Rejet the carb, change the mechanical advance springs in the distributor, (under the points plate) with springs from a Chevrolet HEI distributor, or get a Recurve kit from NAPA, then you get 3 sets of springs,,, I use the second heaviest springs,,,, seem to work the best,, it helps with throttle reponce, and a bit more accurate timing upon acceleration. If your engine makes 150 psi of compression,,, your looking at 45-48 hp pretty easy. 175psi and up it will e in the low 50's. Hope this helps,,, KEEP THE STOCK CAM!!! ChadS
