There will be a antique tractor pull in Boerne Texas on Saturday April 16 starting at 9 am. Practice will be Friday afternoon from 4-8 pm, April 15. The pull is being organized by the Tri-County Antique Tractor Pullers Association and is in conjuntion with the Agriculture Heritage Center Tractor Show. Although the Association has a new name, it's the group from Castroville and some from New Braunfels, Tx. They've built a new sled and it's ready for a full season of tractor pulling in Texas.

Oppy, What rules do you guys run? Can you post them? Also, what speed/HP will your sled handle? We have some V-8 antique tractors we would like to bring down from West Texas. Thanks for your help!

BM,

I've seen a copy of the rules but, I don't have a copy to post. Sorry about that. As soon as I get my hands on a copy I'll get it posted.

I do know that we'll only be running Division I, II and III tractors.

Ok, so I may be a little bit out of line for saying this, but this is pretty sorry. You scheduled a pull the same weekend as a pull in Burton, Texas. Some of the tractors that usually come to our pull will now be going to Boerne. I can't come to your pull because I am going to be at my home pull, the one that has been going on for the 16th year on April 15-17. The date for our pull has been known since the Fall. The weekend will change because of Easter next year I believe, but it will be the same for the next 10-20 years. A member of our club came and pulled with ya'll recently and ya'll didn't inform us. I hate the fact that Texas doesn't have as many pullers as other states. And with that, we don't have as many pulls as other states.

So why??? Why would you schedule a pull the same weekend as another pull in a state that has so few pulls already????? It isn't right and it isn't fair. Its kinda like graduation parties. Best friends usually don't have their partys on the same night, unless they are together.

So, maybe we'll have good numbers. Maybe we won't. Hopefully the pulling groups in the state, Sharecroppers, Tri County, TATPA and Gary Henderson Sled can all get together, put their schedules out on the table and avoid this in the future so we all don't suffer. I have talked to one above mentioned and they are all for it. But if this is not done, you can believe me that we are all going to suffer.

And feel free to email me and rip me for making this post. I just want all the clubs to break even.

Colekicker,

With all due respect to having had your pull over the past 16 years, I don't believe the pull's date was intentional. However, I was not party to the scheduling of this pull. It is my understanding that the Boerne Antique Tractor and Engine Show Assococation invited Tri-County Pullers to put on a pull to complement their 17th annual Antique Tractor and Engine show.

I can say with confidence that it's not Tri-County's intention to detract the attendence from another pull. We (Tri-County) do have a large number of tractors that don't travel over 1 or 2 hours from home and Burton was never an option.

Sorry Guys in reply to Oppy, 03-31-2005 07:57:24
I appologize. I was WAY out of line for the post. I don't think it was intentional.

I guess I would like to see the different clubs officers to get together so we can start scheduling out the pulls for next year (2006) in the Fall. I just don't want us competing against each other.

Now, a pull in far North Texas and one far South on the same weekend is understandable. I guess I am the type that has the bug so bad that I'll haul 5 1/2-6 hrs to pull. But, with the price of gas I can see folks not hauling as far.

Again, sorry about the post. I did not mean to offend anyone.

Hey dude, take a pill and calm down. It will be allright! Maybe some that wouldn't drive too yalls pull because of distance could make it too this one instead and still get to have a good time.

I think it is great that there are more sleds in Texas. The TATPA Sled is great but they have a lot of pulls further in the central texas area. We go to as many as we can but a lot are 3-4 hours away. We will continue to go because they are a great group of guys. The new south texas sled is going to tap a group of people that used to watch the old Lonestar pullers that pulled years ago. A suggestion For the new sled. Keep hitting the county fairs, towns like victoria wharton even seguin (used to have great attendance at Lonestar Pulls) the other bigger towns south of interstate 10. anyhow, yall know all that. we will be visiting as soon as the tractor gets back together. Ryan,

You've pretty much nailed it. We used to participate in the Lone Star pulls years ago and that's part of the enthusiasm that's fueling the new sled and the number of members in the new club.

I thought I recoginzed you driving "The Farmall" at Hondo and New Braunfels. Didn't you have Super Stock IH (1066 or 1086) back in the Lone Star days?

I am the new Generation, I was a rug rat back in the good old days, Havent been to New braunfels since the first one, somebody scheduled their Fair on opening day of archery Deer season. Dad, (Ted) is who you saw always wearing the blue train conductors cap, I think he is more rememberd for it than the tractor
Or it was the big fella with the beard, alan Hattermann who drove the heavy class, dad drove teh light class. It was a 66 Pro not a super, dad always though still thinks it takes more of a mechanic to make a tractor run good and hard with only 1 turb than with 3 or 4. I am looking forward to hooking to a new sled with The Farmall, Not sure if it will be able to stop the diesel we are putting together at around 600 horse but no doubt it will handle the little tractor. Like I said earlier it would be great if there would be more pulls in the spring in the area between austin, San Antonio, and Victoria maybee, that part of Texas South of I10. Shorter drives are always great. I am in the fireworks business and June and July is Booked up. "The Farmall, coming soon to a pull near you!" Ryan

Ryan,

It was your dad. No doubt about the blue conductors cap. That was a smooth running 66 in her day. What happened to it?

I'll keep you guys as up to date as possible about pull dates in South Texas. Seguin is definately a possiblity.

Oppy, we are putting that 1466 back together to pull the diesel class that TATPA is going to be running, Of course with a smallr pump and turbo and we are building a new 466 inch motor. Dont know if you remember but the last year it ran we built a new setup and it had 3288 sheet metal on it. We are opting to go back to the 66 body style it is a classic, no fance colors or murals on it it is going to get a sleek new paint job back to the original design. Seguin under the arena I think it was. that would be a good pull in early spring out of the rain if it were to be bad weather. Nut- Not sure how light we are talking probably only down to the 8g class even with a new tube frame the 7g class is a stretch with the bigger rearend. As for the h it does pretty good in those heavy class because we can get the hp to the ground but when it gets reworked it will pull 36, 41,and 46. I think it would compete up into teh 6000 pound class but I damn sure am not dragging all those weights around. We have come so close to beating gene adams in the 51 against his big cube moline within 5-10 feet when we hook against him, it is easy to balance a tractor when you can hang a lot of weight on it, our tires are killing us. might have to go div 4 so we can go faster, I hate the light classes because with the guage wheels down you cant drag teh sleds around, going fast we are at teh mercy of how the sled was lined up. It would be nice if a sled was built with out guage wheels so the little tractors (refrase Light tractors) could utilize all their potential and not be at the mercy of a guage wheel. track that are crowned heavy we are srewed because we can pull the sled around with the wheels down.

Red.. Gary Henderson's group has a nice self propelled sled that they have started using.. we pulled it a few weeks ago... you'll like it... Actually your dad has probably pulled the sled with the Ol Diesel... I can't remember what the sled used to be called... Yes, the Gene's MM is running hard in about all the classes... I think I'll come play in the lighter classes with you.. soon.. haha...

Is that the new sled that Stephenville has or is it somewhere else? the one sled we used to pull is the one in burton which is a good sled just mean to get started. The other one was one built by Mr. Smith that was set up to be changed to self propeld later in time but the club disbanded before that date. If this is the sled then I wonder if they would let the big diesel pull because it used to stop the older pros and would sure stop this new class as well as be able to handle the lighter antiques. I think it had a floating pan. I might be talking aobut a different one but we might have to make that trip once the big tractor is running if there is another sled out there that would stop it. I think the sled was called the Intimidator and that it used to be painted grey and a little blue.

Yes, the sled that Stephenville.. Maybe he hasn't pulled it with the diesels.. but it used to pull those types of classes... Its got all the stuff.. floating pan.. air bags to fold the steering wheels... chain drive, dual tanem alxes.. it works good... It not NTPA level.. but better than what we have pulled.... JDGnut
