Hey Boys, This is a post for my father in law.. Up here @ our local tractor pull in the big class which I believe is 8000lbs+ stock engines, my father in law is getting out pulled by a local with a 995 Oliver GM. He pulls with a Oliver 99. He also has a JD "R" which he believes will not get the job done either. So this is what he is asking or thinking. Being that in this class the tractors have to be 40 + years old he was thinking about purchasing a MM G1000/705/706 to get the job done. I suggested something in the Cockshutt/Oliver line like a 1950.. Anyways will the above listed tractors out do the 995 Oliver GM? Thanks for your time. You are the experts.

Todd

You didn't say if its a 99 (gas or diesel) or a super 99 (detroit). If its a super it wont do you any good to get a 98 massey as they are the same tractor with different tin work. Other then that I would work with what you have, try different tires, hitch setups, weight setups ect. And if all that fails find someone that can help you with motor mods (whether its a 99 or a super)

Look real close at the tires the winners are using. 1000HP won't place the top three of a stock class without traction. I've had a tractor with 1/2 the HP and 1/4 the speed, kick my butt when he had traction and I didn't. Tire size, ar height, bar angle, sneaky cutting or spinning backwards, rim width and tire pressure. Then have a look an see if they have a "trick" hitch/drawbar. If building a 53 or 71 series Detroit, there are a bunch of HP & safety tricks. You will also notice the winner at at max legal weight, max legal drawbar height and has near perfect fore/aft weight balance.

In the Massey 98 that Marlowe talks about getting, stick in an 800 Moline power unit, which you can bore and stroke. No one will know what is inside in any engine unless dyno"ed at the track. I suspect the one that is beating up on him is not stock inside, but the guy will never admit it.....deadeye

Massey 95, 95 Super or 97 were the Moline built Massey models. The 98 was built by Oliver and used the 3-71.
