Longevity of 70 gas block bored to 6.125

Anyone have any idea of how the longevity of a 70 gas block bored to 6.125 would be? No hard blocking and I plan on "using" it some not just for pulling. Did I figure right that this is 250 overbore?

JDBert,20-25 yrs ago we bored several from 5 7/8 to 6 1/8 using M&W pistons,Part numbers AP 141 for the gas and AP 143 for the LP as far as I know they never had a problem. They were farming with them.I have the old M&W book they were listed in 48.2 to 55.1 hp gain on gas and 50.8 to 56.7 hp gain on LP. Earl In Illinois

Those M&W's had to have more compression than stock to boost the HP that much. Those HP numbers look optimistic and would require ideal circumstances and tuning to ever get that mutch with only 8.7 % more displacement. HP will not increase 8.7% while keeping the same compression ratio.

Hi buickanddeere,The only thing I can tell you about the HP increase is the black & white out of the M&W book. I looked at it again and found not only .250 bigger bore ,but the comp. ratio increased from 6.1 to 6.5 on the gas and 7.3 to 8.0 on the LP.I never dynoed a 70 set up this way so I am just going by M&W dyno test and bragging rights.Have a good one. Thanks earl thats kinda what I was looking for. Do you know if they had any overheating problems? I plan to plow a little with it in the fall so just wondering what I can expect.

Depends if there has been corrosion on the coolant side. And if there was any core shift while casting which has bore centerline offset from the collnat jacket centerline. .250 thou is only 8.7% more diplacement which might be 4-5% more HP at rated rpms. You can find an extra 2-3HP in just by tuning on a dyno instead of the risk just to go from 5.875 to 6.125. Just stick with a 45 thou overbore or go to a power-bloc.
