A friend of mine has a HI engine, it is a U282 6cyl gas. It has a number on the block, R0282H5. He was thinking it was a power unit or a truck engine. He would like to know the HP and year of the engine. Any information would be helpful.

Not sure of the year or horsepower, as my antique truck books don't go that far...but I'd guesstimate that it's from the late '50's to the late '60's, and it's of the BLD or BD series of engines. That should help SOMEONE get you some more specific info. I DO know that the 282 is the "little brother" of the BD-308...which is a "little brother" of the RD-406, RD-450, and the RD-501 [notice distributor placement and style, similar to RD-series engines].

Buzzman! Hows it going? I was wondering if you could send me some info on the older IH 6 cyl gas engines used in the pickup trucks, that were simular to the tractor blocks. Ive read that there is different bore sizes in the trucks, as well as different strokes offered other than what was listed for like the C221-263-291-and 301. What were the cubic inch displacements for these engines, bores, stroke specs? Im more interested in pre 1958 if you have any literature on them. Thanks! My email is open if you wish to email me.
