I have a 44 John Deere A and I'd like to know how high and long I should make the hitch for it to pull in 4500. Plus if anybody knows where the best place to put a weight bracket at?

If the front wheels lift too much/too soon. Shorten the drawbar. If the front never lift as she spins out, lengthen the drawbar.

See where your local rules say you can run the hitch and weights. most use 18 inches from the center of the rear axle and 20 high. Most places also have a regulation about the front weights , here it is no more than 11 feet from the center of the rear axles. Talk to some people around your area and see what they use as what works good around here might not be so great somewhere else. Rear weight brackets, we usually try to get them as close to the rear axle as possible. Some like them in the front and some in the back and good arguments for both. I use them in the back just because it is easier to load the weights.

Also if your gonna pull in a couple of classes and se your hitch up and all get a set of wheelie bars!!! Ya might never need them but it is alot safer with than without! Moat of all though, HAVE FUN!!!! If ya win GREAT!! if not ya got to hear what she sounds like under a load :)

Kerr, it's an experimental thing. If rules say 20" you can try it there but maxium heighth isn't always best. I've seen a 88 Oliver pull in a class at max height and then pulled in same weight class in powder puff and the owner dropped the hitch 1" to help keep the front down for her and she took him by 18 feet. She spun out and he ran out of power. What do you think he did in the next weight class? DCPULLER

Ryan put the hitch 18 in from the center of the rear axel and put it 20 in. high. The best place for a weight bracket is in frount of the rear axel or right behind the rear axel. For the front weight bracket make it out in front of the tractor 20 in.

Most people say the same thing you do. But I have some angle iron and I'm goin to make a bellybar but how thick should the angle iron be. 1/4 in. And one guy told me if I set the hitch were you said and i get in bigger weight classes like i will be doing 55 and double-tree to get some willy bars. And did you get your H running.

I would make the belly bar 1/4 to 1/2 in. thick. It would also be smart to put weleel bars on to. I also got the H running good.

How long should i make the willy bars. and what should i make them out of? I'm goin to bolt the front of the willys on the front axle and make a square shape to the bake then bollt them on the back to just to get a little bit more strength out of them. and what was wrong with your H.

Ryan, make the wheeley bars so they stick out about two or three inches behind the rear tire. You should make them out of rectangle tubing. I would also make them adjustable. You can do this be getting a smaller piece of tubing and sliding it up into the other piece. When you get them made make a plate on the bottom about 6 by 5. My H needed a tune up badd. But i got it running and it's ready to PULL.. See ya Milesssss sssss
