I would like some feed back on the Pull at Joplin; I am a member and would like the quality of pulls that we do, To be held as the highest in the country. As for or world of 58 and older tractors. I'm not kicking the club that put on the pull; We are a tractor club with our own needs to be filed; Like making money for our club instead of putting that much money in a local club; I for one would like to have about 2 or 3 pulls a year for or local club. We could have just as bad of conditions at our local fair grounds as out there. Come on Directors and NATPA officers; We as a national NATPA club deserve beter than those conditons. Whining is not what I am doing; I am trying to keep the level at a top Bar

TVMAN and SLO you people are so right. Some people don't have a clue to what it takes to put one on.Helped with the NATPA pulls in Ogallala NE. for four years. Hard work for two days to hope you break even. Really glad to see new pulls like Carthage and then somebody always has to complain about them. I'm just glad to have pulls to go in the winter time. Keep up the good work Patches.

Don't want to fly under false colors. I have absolutely nothing to do with putting on indoor winter pulls. I just know how hard it is to put on outdoor pulls, and the rest is simple common sense to figure out. To be honest, I don't even like the NATPA, but that's a whole different story.

However, I do know what the promoter's go through, and just how truly thankless of a job it really is. For every good comment, you get 10 that aren't, and usually those are over either something you can't control, say weather, or over petty stuff from those who continually cry and whine, unless they win every class they are in.

That said, I'll try to remember to thank Jon Aller and crew when I get done pulling at Sigourney this year for giving me a place to pull, and for taking on all of the headaches involved.

Unless I don't win, then instead of taking the credit for missing a weight set-up, mis-reading the track, taking a bad line, not having enough tractor, using the wrong tires, etc. I suppose I'll have to blame somebody else. Sure couldn't be my fault if either I screwed up on my set-up, I didn't bring enough of a horse to win the race, didn't outdrive those who are better than me and make more pulls a year than I do, etc. etc. etc. Wait, I know I'm not bringing the strongest tractor, nor the one with the most money invested, nor the best tires.

Guess I just better thank Jon Aller and crew now, in advance, in case I forget my manners. Well, maybe not Virgil, he likes to pick on me from his announcer's mike... :-)

I always thought "thats tractor pulling" applied to whatever condition was not to your liking.I know what it takes to put on an outdoor pull, and can only imagine the headachs of an "indoor, National, winter" pull.Man I look at those three words in one sentence and see a commercial for Extra Strength Tylenol, talk about headachs.Yes the weather was COLD, the truck sled starts hard, but of all the pullers I have talked with it was a success. As far as payback, if you're in NATPA pulling as a for profit business MY personal opinion is QUIT WHILE YOU'RE AHEAD!!! Take up something profitable like golf.

The way i see it tractor pulling isnt Nascar or any high profile sport. Its a bunch of guys and gals out having some freindly competition. As far as the facility at most pulls give me a track and a sled and i will hook. It dosent need to be the ritz for me. As far as conditions at the Carthage pull mine were as bad as they got standing in the wind all day. Trying to line up the pullers. You are trying to line up tractors in order with no one around them and people sitting on theirs freezing in that wind. Waiting for someone ahead of them in the order who isnt to be found. Most pullers were ready to go and enjoyed it. So if you want to improve things there is room for alot of it to go around. King Case

By the way,the pull was in Carthage not Joplin, or did you get lost? As for the facility, do you know why Amarillo quit their pull? The number one reason was the rent of their building went from $2,000 to $6,000. Take a look at Wichita and the cost of their facilities, I know the promotors are looking at other options. You want a high dollar facility, then you need to go to Tunica, it's the mother of all pulls for facilities, but then look who is putting the pull on.

Do you belong to a local club, do you have pulls? What are your grounds like? Why don't you host a winter pull?

Oh and do you have to ask your wife's permission to play on the net?

Iam so tired of people bitching about facilates, hook fees, sleds. If you think it is easy to find a building and pay cost of buildings, trophies, utilites, advertisement, equipment cost, and ever other items that come up. As promoter try it some time and see how much money we all make and still try to put another pull on the next year. Just remember we are trying to give pullers members or not a place to play in the winter. Remember this is not Brain surgey. ITs JUST GOOD OLD TRACTOR PULLING HAVE FUN. TV MAN

I just can't believe something like this happening. NATPA will tell you what to charge and how much money they expect back. Must be they have to have it that way to afford the big winnings they payback! What the promoter or puller ends up with is no concern of NATPA. I think they really expect the promoter to make his profit off selling hotdogs. They used to have a great pull and facility in Kearney Nebraska, but guess that must of been to good for them. Still a great pull and facility there in March to attend, check it out none any better to attend including any NATPA pull. If you want some direction on how to put on a good program you need to call John Lampkin. He can tell you how to prepare a track and run a successful pull.

So, you do not want to see a local tractor club benefit from hosting a national tractor pull, but are ok with PRIVATE INDIVIDUALS hosting a national tractor pull to put the profits in thier pocket???? As for the facilities, the facilities were discussed with Directors of the NATPA, we did not elaborate on the conditions of the arena nor the parking, nor the track. I was told by several members and directors the facility was just fine and they asked if we would host another pull next year. I would think that the publicity generated by this pull would encourage pullers to join the NATPA, but your comments would discourage pullers from joining and discourage promoters from hosting pulls.

Maybe you could do a better job with a much newer facility, why don't you host a pull and let us comment on your pull.

If you want to discuss this in private, you know where to find me.

I agree, there are things that need worked on! One thing is truck sleds! They gotta go! All divisions/weight classes struggle with them! It'd be nice to get great facilities, but I don't know what an answer is there?!

I thought most everyone made a good hook on the truck sled. Some hooks on the other sled were under 100 ft.

I think those that are griping should try and put on their own pull.I have helped put on pulls and it takes alot of time and costs alot of money.Indoor pulls sure cost lots more than outdoor ones.Sponsors are sure hard to get.

I think the promoters that put on these pulls should all ready have enough sponser,s to have the most of the expences took care of and should not have to rely on the pullers to pay for the rent all natpa pulls should have to pay back 50% of entry fees no matter what there are plenty of auto parts stores and seed companys e.c.t that would help promote tractor pulls yes it might take some work for the promoters but it can be done

I've been involved in just about every aspect of a pull. I've done all the legwork to get sponsors, lined up a sled, did the initial work to build the track, weigh people in, do line up, flagging, announcing, writing checks, settling squabbles, teching, etc.

It ain't all that easy to get it all paid for before the first tractor shows up. And that's if you don't have to pay rent for an indoor facility in the winter. It's difficult to get sponsorship for these national pulls especially from the local businesses. The local businesses don't stand a whole lot to gain from their advertising dollars because none of the pullers will be there to buy goods or services next week.

It's a whole lot easier to complain about it than it is to actually do it yourself. Don't believe me, try starting a pull from scratch, with you doing only about 95% of the work.

I've pulled for several years, and promoted for a few. Pulling is a whole lot easier than promoting.

Do you know how much it costs to put on a National Pull? Do you know how many sponsors you need to finance a national pull? We do, we've done it, not just talked about it. Now it's your turn, good luck!

have to add my thoughtsto forum, i would say that the big horse, got beat by the little horse, so you got to put the reason on something being the sled ,the building, the track ,etc. its really not about the pull itself, so mr. big who beat you??
