we pull a 44-6 with a 330 conteintal . it has as much power at 1800 rpm as any high dollar tractor there is. it is copletely stock. we run it in 4500,55,65,7500 4 or 8 mph classes with no problem.

We have a 44-6 that we have a lot of fun with. We put a 427 continental flat head in it. Stroked it 3/4 inch and bored it to 4.5 inches. Had some cam work done. We run around 6500 rpms and pull it in an outlaw class around home.

Hello JDG70,
I would like to know more about the 427 swap. Will the 44-6 get in the 4500 class? Send me an email. Avenger

I think this depends on how much you want to spend and what type of pulling you want to do. I have a 101 with a balanced and ported 265 in it that does good in light antique classes. IMHO, one thing about the six cylinders is that they are pretty expensive to build - I got $2500 in this 265 pretty quick. Also, if people are real picky about their rules, they will grumble about the bigger 265 Chrysler block because it is longer than the original Chrysler 218.

If your rules will allow you to run a bigger block, why not shoe horn the monster 413 L-head Chrysler and really run. I lack the ambition and time to shoehorn the one that is sitting in my barn. Of course, I found it after dumping the cash on 265 build up.

the 265 is a pretty good engine, but it lacks torque in the low rpms, (under 2250) These engines are like the IH 6 cyl gas, they love rpms, rev them up, and go pulling. We built a stroker 265 this spring out to 325 cubes. Made a difference, but I think it is still a bit lazy. you cant bore them over .060, and you can stroke them by using a different rod and still use the OEM chrysler piston. Not alot of work to stretch it out that far, alot of work to the rods on the rod bolts. If memory serves, it is around 72 hp. at 540 pto rpm. but that is pretty low engine rpms,, JMHO, ChadS

Around here a couple of competitors run Massey 44's in the 4500lb class & 15.5x38 Titan tires. They are in the top three at every pull with almost boring consistency. Particularly when the tracks are loose. I only beat them once and that was on a very hard clay track. I don't know what all was done to those Continentals but the flag man has to break stride from a walk into a trot to keep up.

44 4 cylinder. Makes 4500 easy with steel press on the rear. Lot more bottom end lug than the flathead 6's.

Pulled a 101, moved up to the 44 4 cylinder. No comparison in relatively stock configurations.

I pull a 44-4 in 4500, it weighs in at about 3750 or a little more so I get to have about 500 pounds on. Works good only problem I have is that I have to use 13.6's and I dont have enough tire on it. I think this year I'm not gonna pull the 4500 class and put 15.5's on and pull 55-7500.

I pull a 101 and have a blast. This little tractor pulls 3750 to 8200 @ 2280 RPMs. I use a set of old goodyear 15.5s.The only thing that you might do is use the F-226 eng.

If you have the F-226 engine, bore it out to fit 244 pistons... F-244 had the same stroke and pin dimensions... throw on a later carbfrom a 44 if you have an early 101 type carb... run stock with some 14.9s

265 crank does not fit! the 218 was considered a small block, the 251 and 265 was considered a big block. If you are talking bout a chrysler engine. I was thinking they made a 230 chrysler or something, that had a bit longer stroke than the 218. The 265 will bolt into the 101 frame, using the 101 super bell housing, (chrysler) the front engine mount,, not the frame, has to be altered a bit to bolt it it. Fan blade is real close to the radiator, but room to run. ChadS
