if I get any answers will check here later. live in ohio and loaded for new orleans so must leave for delivery, just bought this tractor, has been sitting for awhile. drove it 6 miles home and it freewheels when i came to a downhill grade, someone told me cause it is in low side. is it strong enough to pull on low side? hate to have to split the tractor.

Well with the ta stuck you are limiting your self to slow pulling only. 1st gear with the ta back in a 300 Farmall is pretty slow. I pull against a 350 and he never has to use the ta in our farm stock class. 1st gear ta ahead. 2nd gear there isnt enough there even pulling the ta. Also I think there could be something else wrong internally, something that could bear it head when you start using it hard. Low side on the ta is usually in most cases first to go out.

Freewheeling is your other problem. It will always freewheel going down grades in the low side-that is just how a mechanical ta works. Be careful with that, they have came apart when freewheeling.

My suggestion would be to fix it. My friend is doing his Super MTA. Got the parts for around 850. I know it is a project but the tractor will be better in the long run.

Just my thoughts.

Good luck

thanks for the comeback farming boy. i will take off cover and try see what is wrong, if can get it on high side will be ok. just for pulling. our club is 3mph and low gear. hate to see these old tractors junked, will get the old girl going and have some fun at pulls win or lose its all in having fun and seeing all the old tractors we grew up with.
