I put my farm stock DC on the dyno this weekend to see if there was any change from last spring. Played with carb and timming and all was the same as spring. I decided to adjust the valves to see if there was any more to be had. I brought #1 to TDC and set at 18 thousands. As I rotated the engine I kept checking the adjustment and found that there was a spot where clerance was 24 thousands. This was before TDC. I set the valve at 18 thousands at this point which at TDC clerance was 12 thousands. I did this on all the valves. Put back on the dyno and gained 3 HP. Then made carb adjustment and gained 2 more HP. This was an easy 5 HP gain. Was there a reason that valve adjustment was recomended at TDC versous setting this way? DCPULLER

We built a CC years ago. We also found that you need to degree every cyl.We had it stroked and we thought maybe the crank was off. Crank was Ok.But after checking the cam, was a good stock cam it didn't have any wear. The lobe timing was off from cyl to cyl.We ended up with all different valve settings (each cyl) but it really ran nice.We had higher lift rockers. We switched them around but they checked Ok.Have fun! Earl
