I'm getting ready to mount a set of 16.9 /38 tires for pulling. They are Armstrong 6 ply bias with about 25% tread and are pretty sharp on the edges. Should I use 14 or 16 inch rims on them. I've been using 14 inch but I wonder if the tires would lay out flatter with 16 inch and actually pull better? Please let me know what is working for you! Migraine

I would probably recomend a 16" rim, the wider the tire the more bar is bitting the track.

Migraine, the 16" rim is just where you want to be. The manufacturers recommendation for a 16.9 tire is 15" so the 14 would be a tad narrow, although there are several running that way. The 16" rim will allow a nice, straight sidewall which is what you want for a pulling tire. Mike

Migraine - Like Tire Guy said. Wider is usually better. But, you need to check the rules where you pull. A lot of clubs have rules about rim width for tires that are uncut. Usually they cannot be mounted on rims wider that what is recommended on the tires sidewall, Good luck. J
