How much stroke can you get by off set grinding the crank and using A Rods? How far can you stroke the crank without going thru the back wall and what Rods and Pistons to use?

i have one that is stroked to 8.25" used m&w pistons with a rods shotened about .300" probably could use uncut A rods but compression will be at or over9 to 1 . would not cost any more to go to 9.75" with 4020 rods but will take longer to grind clearance and a piston other than m& w will be required.8.5" withh A rod will get real thin on case top. even with a simple offset grind you will need to weld on crank to narrow rod thrusts.Paul

Paul, never had a problem with the very small difference in the widths of the rods... I know of a few that have been running 10 years without any problems.. I have a tractor simialar to yours... I used the long G block.. and didn't have to cut the rods..

Most use the diesel rods.. and they are welded to what ever rod you need to match the piston pin you use... good place to cut up a babbitted rod.. Getting the correct length is a trick.. JDGnut

Offset will gain you about .300 stroke.. depending on the condition of your crank... Max without knocking out the wall.. is about 8.5.. with A rods.. but it takes lots of grinding on the cam.. and the top of the case.. If you use a 4020 diesel rod.. (or one of the other JD 3in journaled rods.) it will help the grinding on the cam and top cover.. but the one rod bolt is pointing back... Cut the wall out.. you won't go back... lol
Good Luck

On the 4020 rods do you use gas or diesel? With the 4020 rods do you weld A rods on the front and how do you figure the length of the rod that you need?
