To all that have questioned the condition of our track (and this includes myself) I offer this information.

The first year we pulled, the track was "virgin" Mississippi gumbo. Anyone acquainted with this stuff knows how sticky it can be. It was placed directly on the concrete floor of the arena and lo and behold it took the maintenance people two days just to clean the concrete after all the dirt had been removed.

Learning from this experience the crews started laying down a layer of sand before putting the dirt in. This made removal easier but with each passing year it has added more and more sand to the "gumbo" and the result is what we had this year.

Our first priority will be to work with the arena management to load in new "gumbo" for next year and return to the track consistency we expect.

I hope this explains the situation and the cause of this year's track condition. Unfortunately, there was no way of knowing how the tract would perform until it was laid down and used. By that time, however, it was too late to do anything except try to keep it smoothed out and packed as much as possible.

Thanks for your patience.....Spotter

Spotter, other arenas put down plywood or plastic on the concrete floor before hauling in the dirt. Glad ya'll are getting set for next year. Crane

That's what we were expecting as well. We were just as disappointed as others were. It looks like the dates will most likely be December 1st and 2nd..

We have one (a first timer) in the Montgomery Coliseum at Winona, MS on January 15th and of course the Cleveland, MS pull on February 5th. Hope you can make both. Don't have much info (classes, etc) right now but will make available as soon as I can...Spotter

Congratulations on a well run and successful pull!

For next year, they might want to drop the speed limit of the Farm Stock class. 4mph is exccessive for both first gear and a relatively stock tractor. It would take a stout tractor to pull 4mph even with a sandier than normal track.

I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. What really does it matter as long as it's the same for everybody? Everything can't be perfect, we just need to have fun.

88,
Thanks..
But our old JD's do better on tighter tracks and we need to do something to get back in the competition. All them MM's, Ollies, M's, and AC's spanked us bad this year. I'm starting my "lobbying" early....LOL....Spotter
