has to be air like esp wiht 318 2 stage detroits you could shut the fuel off but possibly it would start sucking enough oil and keep running. to be totally safe sure and what most sanctions want is an air shut off

Use the decompression system. Have the kill line hooked to the rod that is pulled back by the decompression lever to decompress the engine. Build a latch system so when the kill line is pulled it pulls the rod back ad releases the catch / dog to keep the decompression rod from comming back forward. We put a key ring in at the sled end of the kill line so that if it does get used the key ring will act as a shear pin and keep from tearing up the decompression system. Brother did it that way and it works well.

Maybe some way you could run a direct wire to the pump, so if it breaks away, it'll pull the pump back, and just have a little hinge for the wire to catch on....???I have no good idea...AC

The only real way is to cut the air off. It can be as simple as a rain flap with a wire to keep it open and run the wire to the back or a guilatine shut off.
