Hey there. I'm not on this board often, I don't have the money (yet) to invest in an antique tractor puller, but a good friend of mine does, and he asked me if I knew of a crank that would lengthen the stroke on an M, specifically a crank from one engine that could be interchangeable with an M. Can anyone give me any advice to pass along to him? Thank you very much. Tim

There is a stroker crank listed for an M in the photo ads placed on 11-10-04. His num. is 256-353-5167.

Tim, as far as a "bolt in" stroker crank for the M-450, M&W made a 5-3/4 stroker crank, Stock stroke was 5-1/4. Now,,, just try to locate one that dont cost you and arm and a leg. LOL. Best advice I can say is to have the M crank stroked to that spec, and have pistons made to accomidate the added stroke. Through C&P machine in Fort Wayne IN, that crank is around 900 to have built. I make 4-1/8, high compression pistons for the 5-3/4 stroker, so options are out there for this engine set up. 80-95 hp easy just depends on how hard you work at tuning it. Not trying to sell parts,, but a cost list looks simular to this,,,
piston kit, $750, thats the whole kit n kaboodle sleeves pistons gaskets etc etc (no rod and main bearings) stroker crank is 900.
the average cyl head rebuild is between 100-275 depending on condition of the head,,, Makes 307 ci. 4-1/8 X 5-3/4. On most 248 M blocks, you pull out the sleeves, and drop 4-1/8 bore pistons in after honing the block. so you dont have to bore it, Use a Super M-450 cam shaft to pep it up a bit more than the M cam,, you can use the 8060D, or the later head castings SM-450. Hope this gives an idea for a bit more hp on a slight budget. ChadS

Hi, fellas. So, Chad, let me get this right-..this is quite interesting. You leave the groove at the top of the bore, clean up the block with a 3 stone hone, and throw the 4 1/8" pistons in? How long does an engine last running in the bare block? I have a Super M block that froze through the cylinders, which I may bore out as big as I can go and install sleeves. Any idea how big I can go? Regards, FD
