Very nice of you to offer your help constantly, I see you post a lot here with helpful information.I have a 326 cid SM puller with a rock-it governor,is it really as bad as you say and would different springs help it?Thanks again

The Rocket Governor for the farmall lineup IS SUPERIOR to all others. They are quicker responce.
The problem some folks have is surging. From my own problems with this, I have found that the Engine was not tuned in properly (Carb set wrong,
cam timing, Ignition timing, bad plugs, poor fuel.) The Rocket Governor is very responsive and will bring out you tuning problems. So if you have tried a Rocket Governor and didn't like it you need to look at tuning your engine better.
Hope this helps

Depends on the application it is used on. Bigger cube engines, with higher rpms set by the governor. on stockers, 10%and lower rpms, they surge badly! (no load) I agree if you have one and not tuned to the engine, it may not help show gains in performance. Comes down to understanding the technology they came up with on this system. I have found them on the Modified engines, they work well, surged, but worked,, it would not find a steady rpm range to lay down and lug, it just kept on going up and down onthe rpms, at any range. On stockers, the engines responce time was too slow to respond with the governor's potential. kinda made it erratic a bit,, it would rev up, but nothing really inbetween the rpm ranges to benifit from them. For those who have figured them out, and customized them to work on their setups, then they can work out fine. But just bolting them on and go,, nope, dont work that way. Which is usually the problem with most aftermarket parts, even though, it bolts right on, still gotta tune it in, and understand how the governor works on them. How did you fix the surging problems? I have some laying around still,, never really tried to get them to run on a stocker as well as the stock governors which have been enhanced a bit,, Always thought the weights were too lite in the rockets,, and that is what mite cause the surging. I like the uniball linkage on the Rock-it governor. After all the linkage is what actually opens and closes the carb and compared the the sloppy farmall rod and clevis it's much more positive. I guess the jury is still out on the 2 weight vs 4 weight argument. I think the selling point of the rock-it 4 weight is that it's pinless and doesn't wear.

The rocket governor was the pioneer of the high performance IH governor. It was basicly a lite weighted governor, that is capable of running 2500+rpms, with no other adjustments to the linkages. I have a few of them laying around that I swapped out to see what the difference was on the dyno. For some reason,, the owners of the tractors, liked the responce the stock governor, with our spring, VS the $300+ rocket system. I think on a high rpm puller,, they are great,, but how many LOW rpm pullers try to use them,, and think they are getting the best. Really, it is just a high rpm governor. Liteweights instead of the heavy stock weights. We found out, that the governor spring,, does the exact same thing,, as the rocket governor, just in a lower rpm range. Sure you can get more rpms if you want from the spring, but what we are looking for in a governor is responce time, and sensitivity in lower rpms. not higher. The little springs I have, speed up the entire stock governor system. I dont think I have a spring for the rocket governors,, they are ones of thier own, and my spring, you would have to re adjust the vertical linkage going to the carb. ChadS
