Hello to all fellow tractor pulling junkies.I miss talking on a regular basis.I have seen a few of ya at a a couple pulls and i felt sorry and give you a break.sweeper,fatty but I will be at Tunica,"Holy Alimony " will be ready to roll, Ill even remember fuel. Also, my protege' (hooked on phonics advanced version) Yankie Jerry,will be there as well, he is the new owner of the PS 50, 3 cyl 1954 Deutz 211Ci, and it is stock, it just runs a little rich. It has been doing very well,so of course it it the center of controversy.(phonics) As everyone well knows controversy, is a situation i avoid at all costs.
Ill try to keep him in line in MS.
To anyone that hasnt come to Tunica, you are missing the boat,this is a great event ,sponsored by good folks, they make it fair as well as fun.The after pull events at fitzgeralds are worth the journey!!

The Farmstock II Class is pure stock with the exception of allowing hang on weights. And no cut tires. I don't think you'll have to worry about being "over horse powered" or RPM'd. Glad you're coming...Spotter

What is your rule concerning carbs on the open tractors? Can you have more than one carb? Do they have to be updraft or can you run a downdraft? I have never been to your pull but I would like to come this year.

I'm not the best one to be trying to answer such questions but here is the intent of "on tractor origin". You're correct in that it would include the carb. Whatever type carb(up or down draft, number of barrels, etc) was on the tractor, as it came from the factory, is the type that must be used. This would be true of other parts as well except as noted in the rules. I hope this helps straighten out my earlier remarks.

We run an old JD 820 diesel so I'm not sure what a carburetor or even a spark plug is...LOL...Just give me a battery and I'm ready to go....Spotter

There will be people there with the knowledge and equipment to inspect as might be necessary. This is an antique tractor pull not the NASCAR points championship and we're not going to take the fun out of it by making it two days of tech inspections. The rules are pretty simple and we would like to leave it to the pullers, as much as possible, to insure their tractor meets these specifications...Spotter

We have not attended nor participated in the Tunica Pull. However have heard nothing but the greatest of compliments on the facilty, track crew, event sponsors, and most of all the fun everyone has. Considering being spectators this year and definitely participants next.
We are active participants with USAP and have thoroughly enjoyed hooking with them as well as CKAP, Hook 'em UP, Tuggers and some local events not associated with any organizations other than 4-H fund raisers.
Pullin is what we do, but fun is the name of the game. The quickest way to suck the fun out of it is to have a tech crew who looks for ways for disqualification, rather than a way for everyone to pull and have fun. Do some of us run right on the edge and occasionally over the edge, most likely. Do we have people who consistently ignore the safety and class rules, no. Fellow pullers will not allow it.
Basic teching, tire size, drawbar height, weight, stock appearance are a given and easy to monitor, rpms, bore, stroke, large carbs, big HP engines, all will be controlled by speed limit and the toot of the horn. Lord knows I have heard my share of toots after half track.
Looking forward to USAP Thanksgiving Pull and making future plans to attend Tunica Pull.

Out of curiosity, what "stock" tractors have a fast enough 1st gear to run 4MPH at the beginning of the pull let alone at mid-track. Very few tractors were ever built with that fast of a first gear. I am not even starting to talk about the horsepower required.

Why aren't Detroit Diesel powered tractors allowed to run (if I understand your rules correctly), too loud?

That being said, eveything I hear about the pull, people and facility is good.

Okay the Moline has a fast first gear. What about some of the Cockshutt"s that have a 2 mph first gear? Even the Moline will probably be doing less than 3 mph by mid track with the throttle wide open. I guess I am still saying, that 4 mph is too fast and the first gear rule benefits a couple of select model/make tractors or encourages parts swapping (ring & pinion from a standard into a row crop tractor) or custom gears to keep up with the fast tractors. The there is the extra power equired to run the faster gears.

Unless they have changed the rules Detroit Diesels are allowed to pull. There is usually two that I know of 990 Olivers from Kentucky that pull at Tunica.

A low gear rule with a 4 MPH speed limit is an open door invitation to let people start modifying and swapping gears to make there modified tractor run the maximum limit in low gear. Good chance that is what you will see?? If they really were concerned about keeping it fair for all brands of "STOCK" tractors they would just set a lower speed limit like 3 MPH and throw there low gear rule out. No different than the 4 MPH or 8 MPH classes. Who cares what gear they pull in just stay under the slow "STOCK" like speed limit and leave it be at that. That is the most fair thing any organization can do for a stock class. It works well in many other associations. JMHO

1st. gear, 4MPH would seem somewhat like "overkill", huh. Why? I don't know. Maybe just a carry over from another time.

Don't think it's a noise problem with the Detroits. After all, the noise is part of the fun. Not that I know much about them but they do have some sort of turbo don't they? My own personal opinion would be that they are kind of in a class of their own.

I do not know if any Detroits will run there this year or not. Given what the rule reads (No supercharger) I would not haul one down to find out. Most groups make an exception for Detroit powered tractors. Mght be change to the rules that should be considered along with dropping the speed limit in the stock classes to 3mph.

I hope everyone has a great time at this pull. Someday I would like to attend if only to watch.

If they've run in the past then they will run again. I'm not too tractor specific but we haven't eliminated anything from any classes that have run in Tunica in previous years (Well, except for the "Hot Rod" anything goes class)....Spotter

Olivers that came with the G M 3-71 can pull at Tunica. That is the only tractor built before 1960 that had a blower, so they are legal. Also we say no V-8's, but an 8-N Ford with a flathead V-8 was offered in the late forty's or fifty's as an option. About 200 were made. On the carb question, only an updraft, one barrel was made on all except two cylinder John Deere's. Some of the number series had a two barrel, so no Holly four barrels, those are for car racing.
