I was reading the thread for "stroking a "G" and saw the mention of using "A" rods.
Can something similar be done to an "A"?

And last what other ways are there? Not looking for something wild just alittle more OOMMPPHH.
Thanks Tim

To do a small but effective increase, have the crank offset ground, may be gain .250 or so, works good and is fairly cheap, most crank grinders say it takes 6 or 7 hours to grind, then fit up the rods.

Like dieselrig said.. you can do a .250 offset journal grid.. and use a Case rod.. (I think its the rods out of a case 504 engine.. ) The case rod has 2.75 journals.. and they are a wide journal rod simialar to the A rod.. (not quite as wide.. but closer..) you will have to cut the case rod and weld to another rod.. you can use 5.75 aircraft piston.. and have a nice little engine.. Which crank to use will depend on the year of your tractor. If you are going to have any welding done on the crank.. might as well go big...
If you are going to go with a stroker I like the JD 359 rods.. they are narrower but will give more strength to the crank.. Good Luck

She's a '49 "A" all fuel, and I had a guy tell me today that I should put her back together and leave as an all fuel tractor. And go find something else to build a puller out of.
Are the late model all fuels rare or something special?
Thanks for your replies Tim

According to the JD spec. book authored by Froelich of the 90 something thousand "A"s made between '48 and '52 only 16,xxx were all fuels.
And I have seen gas only "A"s (hood with 1 filler hole and longer single tank)
Anyway just wondering

Sorry about the information Tim... I didn't.. and don't have my Data book handy... 16K is still a lot of tractors in that short time.. I wouldn't be afraid of making it a puller.. you don't have to go wild with it... and you won't have to do any cutting or major grinding to it.. Good Luck
