when building a weight bracket for the center of the tractor should it be in the middle of the tractor or close to the front of rear axle?

My belly bars are closer to the back of the tractor, but different than anyone else's I have seen. They work for me.

check simmilar tractors to yours. Belly bars work good on some tractors not on others. My tractor is hard to balance and the belly bar does not work for me, I put all my wieght in the rear and balnce it out front

It really depends on your application. The placement of the bracket controls how much of the weight is transferred to the front and rear wheels. If the bracket is closer to the rear, more of the weight is on the rear tires and vise versa.
It's all simple physics. All weight on the tractor is transferred to the tires (carrying the weight). The tires closer to the weight have less leverage on it and require more force to hold it up. Up and Down Force has to remain equal (unless you want the tractor to rise into the air or sink into the grond) so a reactive force transfers the down force of the weight to the tire.
All this aside, I would suggest putting it closer to the rear, because you want more of the weight on the rear than the front.

Bryon is correct regarding the law physics with regard to how close the weights are to the rear tires. Here is another way of thinking. I have 3 weight brackets on my tractor, rear, middle and front. I weigh my tractor heavy on the rear bar with enough on the front to balance everything out. Prior to building a front bracket, I used the middle bar but it seemed that I needed about the same on the middle bar as I had on the rear bar to balance the tractor. I think the leverage you get when using both the front and rear brackets is good for "heavy" downward weight but the middle is nice when you need that little bit of weight for a good balanced tractor on the front. In 8500, I sometimes add a 65# weight to each side of the middle bracket. The combine 130# works great for me instead of 400-500 needed on the front to do the the same thing. One might argue that they are the same but the performance on most tracks was clearly different for me.

Now that I have change a bunch of things on my tractor, I will probably have to start all over again with determining what works and what doesn't

IMHO

I AGREE WITH BURNS, PUT ONLY ENOUGH ON YOUR MIDDLE BRACKET TO MAKE THE WEIGHT ON THE FRONT TRANSFER SMOOTHLY TO THE REAR, DURING A PULL. A CENTER WEIGHT BRACKET SEEMS TO MAKE A TRACTORS FRONT END ,"NOT SO JITTERY".?.?
