Can you put too big of a venturi in a carb ? Seems to have good fuel air mixture just wondering thoughts on venture size.Engine has no major work done. Craters, .120 off head, cam, ignitine

Yes. It is possible to have too big of venturi. Venturi size is relitive to compression pressure, and rpm. If it is for sure out of an M, that is the second smallest venturi for that series of shebler carb. good for low end torque. if the engine has 100-125 psi, leave it alone, 150 and above, then you would need a larger venturi, and rejet it to match. Maybe a Super M ventrui in a higher compression engine. ChadS

I've made a few venturis with differing restrictions for my M. The stock venturi for the high compression gasoline carb is 1 inch at the smallest point (low pressure area) of teh venturi. How much larger is the SM venturi in the 1 1/4 updraft carb?

Approx, .160 larger for the earlier Super M 1-1/4, and .190 larger in the later models. Which was commonly found in the early 400. Each carb for each model, had 2 venturi sizes available for the models, earlier models, had the smaller size, and the later had larger for they used that one in the mext model,,,as they got newer,the got larger.
