Found a pair of 15.5 x 38 tires for my G JD. Thought I wanted 14" rims, but someone suggested a 16" rim would put more rubber on the ground. Does this sound reasonable? Also, got a price to widen my rims for $150.00 ea. Can't seem to find any used. I see Wilson Farms advertise rims but it seems freight would be high (I'm on the west coast). Appreciate any suggestions.

According to the guys I've talked to, it is better to have a wider rim, because it moves tread from you sidewall to your contact patch. But I also know a little about mountain biking and fourwheeling and they like knobs on the side to grab the edges of ruts and holes.
That's one reason i'm not in a hurry to change my M from the 13.8's on stock width rims. I hardly ever have a problem with old holes. And that seems to be one of the biggest problems for guys.
