What kind of horsepower does a 45 B with 4 11/16" bore and 6 1/4" stroke make? I have a chance to buy one that was a old antique puller about ten years ago.

Depending on tuning and other varibles it would / should be between 30 to 36 HP. I had a 4.375" X 6" Unstyled "B run out at 28 HP. My 5.125" X 6.75" will run between 40 and 45 HP. My sons 5.125" X 7.5" with other tricks will run out between 60 to 65 HP.

Can this be competitive in a low gear class of today?

Eric, That's is kind of a tough question to answer, because the most unfair thing you can have in antique pulling (today) is a low gear rule as all you have then is brand favortism and a invitation to cheat the rule with transmission gear alterations. The guys stuck pulling in creeper gear really have no advantage either as to slow with enough power is not going to keep you in front either. The problem with a low gear rule is they don't limit how fast low gear can be?? If you could run in some monitored speed limit classes like 3.0, 3.5 or 4.0 mph you would have a chance to win one once in awhile. Without a speed limit and that kind of power your chances will be a low numbered few. That vintage of tractor will have a faster low gear than the later B's and will run about 2.5 to 3.0 in low gear depending on tire size and engine rpm limits.
