My club's stock class rules are up for examination soon. We had decided on a 1958 limit in contrast to 1956 on the other classes. I would like to discuss the possibility of changing the limit to 1963 to include more classic farm tractors. I do not think it would affect competition because the older ones balance and pull better especially in stock class. It would include some newer classics. What do you puling guys think of this? Not sure if my club will agree with me.

I would say that to look at the contorversy closer about letting inthe the newer, and bigger tractors is to look at the sled being used. Will it be heavy enough to stop em? The equalizer in these cases are the speed limits, tire size, and hitches. Our club cant run later model tractors, simply cause the sled cant stop em, it barely stops the big MM's in the club. I wouldnt let the newer ones bother me at the pulls, they are just looking for a place to pull too. I would say in antiques, the year break should be at 1959, and older. All the 2 cyl JD can pull, there is alot of tractors that can be let in, just look at the new models that came out between 56-59! Just like John Deere said in 1960, New generation power. IH did it before 1960 with the 460-560-660, bad timing on the JD,, to let the 3010-4010 in the antiques. Also, I do feel these tractors need a place in antique pulling, maybe a 63 and older class for a newer tractor class, Just my opinion,, ChadS

Chad, this would be up to 6500#...maybe 7500# sometimes. The sled works good. All stock hitches, tires, equipment, etc required. Figure speed out in first 50ft, but cannot go over 2.5 mph past that. One beep you are OUT. I think the newer ones would have a hard time getting any advantage here but they should be included. It equalizes machines very well and comes down to balance ability to drive. Most of the time it is oldies that win these anyway. Our other more "liberal" classes are 1940/prior and 1940-56.

Most of the newer tractors were that heavy anyways. At least the popular models in question. Just depends on what shows up to pull. Chads

If there is a change, make it across the board in all categories, because "Farm Stock" tractors have a way of growing into faster classes and there will be no where for them to fit in. This may not be a problem from what I hear at CTPC, all the tractors are stock and "We just come to have fun" right?? LOL

Clintonia Club did the opposite. We started with faster tractor classes and created the Farm Stock for farm/show machines just because they were left out. If extra h.p. slips in to the class, the low speed limit, regular tires, and one beep after 50 ft. rule keeps things straight. Plus all hitches, tires, etc has to be factory. Keeps most the "fresh" machines in check. Yeah, we have a blast. Hoping to see newer years. We"ll see what the fellas think.

I pull two tractors, one is a 1957 the other a 1958. The 58 is not allowed to pull at some places, to new. The only differance between the tractors is the sheet metal, the brakes, and the model number. They are both Fords One a 900 the other a 901.

Our club doesn't have an age limit. Any year, any rpm.

3.5mph is an amazing equalizer...

we pull in "farm stock" up to 1960 and allow up to 1970 in "Classic" or modified class. so far have only had a few newer tractors attend with no so good results.

The 1958 rule was an early attempt to keep 460's and 560's out. They were just too good for most competitors back then when the 1958 decision was made.

That's such a huge debate and no matter what you do someone will be upset, but eventually these so called newer tractors will be 50 + years old. I say run the 58 and older but also have a few classes
for all ages, the older tractors will jump classes
it's how much money you spend on the engine, it's just that the new ones take less. older Oliver and Cockshutts run 6 cylinders so where is the real advantage?

If all your members are in agreement with it, go for it, but we have a 57 year limit at our club, it makes a few people mad, but at that time, tractors were changing fast, IH went to 6 cylinders, JD didnt change and that rule angers the 30 series owners, my advice is make sure you do your research or you just may have a bad situation at hand, especially if you have several classes like we do, div 1,2,3,4,5 that newer stuff can really shut down a club, you might be as well off to let the newer stuff pull there own farm class with its own set of rules, we have a club here that did that and it gives all the tractors a fair place to go.

Most clubs allow the 1959 & 1960 30 series two cylinders into the classes with the 1958 limit. The tractors are identical to the 1958 black dash 20 series except for the sheet metal.

This would be for our Farm Stock Class only (like div 1&2). It is for stock farm and show tractors. The other classes are 1940Antique/1941-56Classic 3.0mph and Fun 4.5mph. For stock machines I think it would be a great addition without making another year split and complicating things.

I pull a 62 4010 from 6500 to 8500 at our local pulls. Our limits are stock and open to 1963, and a few classic pulls to 1972. I have a bone stock engine, more power than some and less than others ( gingerich 88"s and 800 inch MM"s"). The 3.5 mph stock keeps it so you have to use your balancing abilities , hitch length and tire pressures right to do well. As far as the open classes go In some cases I have been grossly under powered and still won the class because I had a better set up. I plan on having more power for next year, hopefully. I originally wanted a G John Deere till I found out how much it would cost for big inches in 2 cylinders! Give the 1963"s a try, in any color, it makes it more fun for everybody.
