I built an IH 263 gas motor a few years ago. Went with a 4 1/8 bore and had to use sleeves (after boring block to accept 4 1/8 pistons I was in the water jacket). I then hard-blocked the water jacket, just circulated water in the head and used a girdle on the bottom of the block tied into the main bearings for support. I ran this tractor in an unlimited RPM class. It ran like a bear for a couple years, then the block core shifted and cracked the block between cylinders.
I'm looking to rebuild. I believe I'll be running an RPM-limited class (approx. 3000 RPM). I have recently acquired a complete engine from either an IH combine or a stationary engine. My questions are:
1.)Where are the identification numbers on these motors? 2.)Will this motor (depending on model) accept my 4 1/8 piston by just boring (is it thick enough around the cylinders). I don't want to run sleeves as they take-up too much of the bore and leave little support in the block. I also realize sonic testing is probably the best answer to my question. I believe there may have been previous discussion on this subject. Just looking for an experienced opinion.

On a machined surface by the Dist. will be eng. size and serial no. Your 263 had a c-263 + serial #. You need a c-301 & can only bore it 4". To go more you need sleeves and that is not good with that block.
