I have a GM that I would like to put a stroke in this winter. maybe 9" does this work without major block or crankcase work or how big can I go and who does these crankshafts?

It is a good bit of work to get 9" to clear, but it will live forever if done right and taken care of. A local guy has a G that's 9" x 6 3/8" and been running that way for over 10 years. It's wore out but it's held together.

A 9" stroke will live a long time if done correctly, and you do not mistreat the tractor. Rods will have to be made for the smaller journal size, and you will still have to grind the crankcase and notch the camshaft slightly. Use merfield, or schooler for crankwork.
