It all depends on how the classes are set up. Around my neck of the woods(SE-IA), they used to have an antique class that was 1938? and older. Lately there haven"t been any to compete, so they will usually lump them in with the classics. That being said, we have 2 F-20"s, one with around 52 horse, and one that dynoed 75. The smaller one doesn"t do that well, and the other one can hold its own in the antiques, but not against newer tractors. For some reason when the rpm"s pull down, they seem to go quick, but that only happens on a sticky track. What is nice about F-20"s is that they are fairly easy to build. The blocks on these things are massive and can be bored out greatly. The downside is that there are no bearings in the middle of the crank. Both of these tractors were built over 15 years ago, so parts may be harder to find now which may increase your cost. But just for referance we bought a F-20 with 52 hp for $400, and then paid another $400 for the 75 hp motor. From the looks of the classified ads, you would be paying much more now.

Well last year I pick up one for $400 that didn"t run but soon will and just this past weekend a friend gave 2! One is complete and the other is missing a few parts but the block is still there and appears good. So I at least have something to start with. They don"t want me to pull my A or B farmall"s around here so maybe the F-20"s can work.

Who doesn't want you to pull your A or B Farmalls? Take them out there anyway! I pull my Farmall A in 2500, 3500 AND 9000# Team pulls. I pull team pulls along side a Super C or H. These little tractors will surprise a lot of people!

You can have fun win lose or draw as far as I am concerned. However, it is more fun to be competative. I don"t know how it is in your area, but around here there are 2 kinds of pullers. The ones that will win at all costs, and the ones that pull for the fun of it. Being a member of the 2nd group is much less stressful. Good luck with your tractor.

Most of the guys around here think if you can"t spin 5000 to 6500 out you tractor you shouldn"t even try to pull it. And that attiude has killed off the light classes. But there are a few fairs and tractor show that have 3500 and up. Thanks for the input and I will have as much fun as I can! Shaggy
