Not to oversimplify the question but, how much can be safely milled from the head without running into valve train geometry problems?

Never milled down a 70 head.. but the geometry of rockers can be fixed by a few methods... One is to put shims between the head and the base of the rocker arm assembly.. Second.. you can shorten the pushrods... Grinding or machine one end of the rod..

There is a limit on the 70 when shimming under the rocker arm assemble.. If too many shims are used the valve cover will not be tight against the head... Best bet is to shorten the push rods.

Many thanks. I'd heard of shortening the push rods but didn't even consider shimming the rocker arm assembly. Between the two, we should be able to get it where it needs to be. To date, we've milled .150".
