I just bought a 36 jd A I and pulled the head the bore measures 5 and 3/4 and has flattop pistons is this right or has it been bored I also was wondering what is the best spark plugs to use in it and is their a bigger or better carb. I can put on it it has dtlx 18 on it now and is there anything else pretty simple I can do to it to get a little more out of it pretty quick because there are a couple pulls coming up and I want to try it out

it has cat pistons..i believe i have heard out of a D6???.....ask "buickandeere"....or lynn

First decide what you are going to do with the tractor... they can easily be bored and installed the .45, 90, .125 over High compression AL pistons... or you can the route others listed.. using the CAT or the aircraft pistons.. but to do this you will have to weld the rods.. not a problem.. but not something you would do on a normal rebuild.. JDGnut

(Also the older blocks had a bigger counter bore at the top.. usually .125 will clean most of this out on an A... or close to it..)
