The electronic ignition adds ZERO HP. It just helps ensure the engine puts out it"s max possible HP.

Buy it you won't regret it. I noticed alot better throttle response and starting. Its easy to put in and worth not having to deal with points ever again.

How about it keeps your plugs cleaner. It will fire down to zero rpm. You won't have to change points or clean them..... easier starts...Sold???

It depends.

If you mean a points replacement type then the answer is zero.

If you mean a GM HEI type with 50KV coil and platinum plugs with .055" gap, then the answer is 5% to 10%.

Now, since I'm not a puller--yet--I'm not giving an expert's opinion here. But let me say that, assuming that an electronic ignition will give a more consistent spark...both in duration and intensity...than a points/condenser setup, the difference should be quantifiable on a dyno. It may be only 1/2 a HP, it may be 3 HP...and it may vary by rpm and load. But the ignition should be optimized by using a coil that can live up to the potential of the electronics, rather than being a limiting factor.

That's all theoretical, of course, but it's based upon sound internal combustion engine science. The degree it affects YOUR engine will depend upon the mechanical condition of the engine, i.e., how well the rings seal and what kind of cylinder pressures are generated by your engine.

So if somebody tells you it's worth, say, 5 HP, it just might be on HIS engine...but YOU may only see, for example, 3 HP on YOUR engine, based upon its condition and settings.

Farmall Puller, I don't know about power gains but our two DC's start quicker and run smoother with the Pertronix Ignitors and hot coils. The only draw back is we had one go to heck at a pull and we were done for the day. I don't keep any around at $69.00 a pop. Dave S

Last time I got points and condensor for my SMTA it ran around $20. Doesn"t take too long to justify the electronic ignition.

it doesn't give it any it just let's you enrich your carb and still burn it. just my opinion let's see what everone else thinks . let's hear it Chad
