JD 520 Pistons in a JD50?

Hi, I have a JD 50 which I want more power I was told that if I use 520 pistons it will raise my compression is this true? Are the wrist pins the same as my 50? Thanks Mark

Which ever you use, stay below 8:1 compression for a farm work oriented tractor... A Power Block would be your best bet for a real good power increase.. I know of one JD "B" with a power block that regularly pulls a 3-14" pull type plow... I don"t see any reason you can"t get into the 35 to 40 HP range..

If I use the 520 pistons in the 50 will they clear the sparkplugs since the 520 has them in the head and the 50 has them in the clyinders? Would it increse the compression much or would I be better of to just mill the head and cylinder down. I have had the cam reground by roberts and it helped a lot. Mark

I have been told to make one really pull is to use a 520 camshaft. In the letter series we use lp pistons.Good luck

The B,50,520 & 530 all used identical cam timing and lift.

Correction, A late "B" uses the same cam spec. as the later model tractors you mentioned, early "B's" (1935-1946) are different specification. DW

True but the factory replacement B cam right back to 1934 used the late B/50/520/530 specs.
