I know some stock HDs putting out 250-275 h.p. Here is what I found from a pump motor dealer. Nice website. The M-M motor could make a few CAT motors hiss... ha-ha.

About HD 800 Minneapolis Moline from W-W Irrigation (www.wwirr.com):

W-W Irrigation"s remanufactured HD 800 Minneapolis Molines have long been THE STANDARD BY WHICH ALL OTHER IRRIGATION ENGINES ARE COMPARED. Spouting close to 200 horsepower with 200 foot pounds of torque at a mere 1750 rpms, these engines deliver both the power and the pull needed for even the deepest of wells. A flawless, straight forward straight six design gives these engines the long standing reputation for perfect design and a long lasting life.

Eathen: The formula for figuring torque when you know the h.p. and rpm's is as follows: h.p.x 5252 divided by rpm's = torque. In the case of your mighty Mo, it would be: 200 x 5252 divided by 1750 = 600.22857 pound feet of torque. If you know your torque at a given rpm, you can also figure out your h.p: 600.22857 x 1750 divided by 5252 = 199.99998 h.p. See ya at Fowler the last weekend of August. Marty

Hello Marty. I thought that number sounded goofy, but it came of a website that failed to check their math. Thanks for the formula though! See ya in Fowler hopefully!!!

The main drawback to them now is fuel prices. When LP and propane were dirt cheap, they were economical to run on wells. These days, in a hot summer where you have to make 10 or more turns with a pivot, they'll eat you alive in fuel costs. There are TONS of old Minnie power units around here (not many HD800s though), but fewer and fewer every year, because they're being replaced by diesels. By comparison a Deere 4045T or 6068T diesel can make 125-200 horsepower and they generally only use 2-3 gph. But LW is correct. 200 horsepower at 1750 rpms requires 600 lb-ft of torque, not 200. I can't say they'd make any comparably sized Cat motor hiss. A Cat diesel of that size would make more torque at a slightly higher rpm on less fuel.

SINCE MOLINE NEVER PUT THESE MOTORS IN ANY OF THERE TRACTORS, I THINK THATS WHERE THEY NEED TO BE IN FRONT OF A PUMP PUMPING WATER, NOT IN A PULLER. THE POWER THAT THESE ENGINES MAKE IS VERY IMPRESSIVE FOR A NATURALLY ASPIRATED ENGINE. BUT AGAIN , THIS MOTOR WAS NEVER MANUFACTURED IN A TRACTOR, BUT THE SAME IS FOR ALL THE IH TRACTORS RUNNING TRUCK IN-LINE SIX ENGINES. JUST MY TEN CENTS WORTH.

Moline DID put these in some of their tractors, but not very many.

Why did they make a small bell HD800 if they weren't made for tractors, A4T's came with them, I have seen a G1350 with one that was factory its at Wendel Everret's in Ohio.

Your could also find them in others. I've seen them in G-1000, and older tractors that were dealer installed for more power in the later50's and 60's

And I have seen Detroit Diesels, Cummins and Cat engines installed by dealers in other brands of tractors. Repowering tractors has been done for a long time and many were done by dealers. Does that mean these tractors are legal? Or does it only count if it was a factory option available to the general public? If so the 800 HD is out unless we count big 4WD engines as acceptable swap material. But then a 425, 504 or 605 can be built just about as big as an 800 or 800HD can get (1200+ cubes) if you want. Or are we counting engineering exercises?

I like the 800HD, it's a good engine, it belongs in a big tractor.

Since you could purchase a tractor brand new with the HD 800 in it yes it does make it legal. But only the small bell engines in the later model tractors not a "pump" engine in a GVI or GB.

Yes, the dealers would install the older 800 in a GVI

So I can run a 6V or 8V Detroit legally because quite a number of them were dealer installed into tractors.

HD 800 small bell was available from the factory the engines were mostly installed at the dealers They were factory authorized and came with the same warranty that the 504 had they were not something that a few dealers just bolted in the serial number list shows about 480 of them being built and all were installed in tractors not power units maybe that is plain enough for you.

I am sure the engine came with the same warranty. I would have to see original documentation that the factory really authorized and extended a full (drivetrain) factory warranty to replace a 100 horsepower engine with a 200 horsepower engine in the two wheel drive tractors. This would put a lot of additional strain on the drivetrain. Off course the swap would make the gas man happy. Imagine trying to run these rigs with today's fuel prices!

Now I never said they were legal or not. I was just talking about what was availible from the dealer. As far as the legality, it would depend you the rules where you pull
