how does putting a stiffer spring in the govenor increase rpms i think that it would do the opposite the stiffer spring the hard it would be to open

The spring opens the carb and the weights on the gov pull against the spring to close it and hold it at governed speed. When the speed slows down the spring will pull it back open to speed up.

Where is a good place to get a stiffer spring for the M, Super M family? Someone here said a H-350 spring was stiffer. Have seen these advertised but 40+$ seems a bit high for a spring.

GET part no. 166.167 is the same only one more coil about a buck each.A JD part a50041 isalmost identical performancewise 2bucks list.2000 rpm is easy.

The correct John Deere no. is a50047.
