RPM increase SMTA

Trying to increase RPM on SMTA. Have backed off bolt in governor that is supposed to help but so far hasn't made a difference. I put in a new governor spring a couple years ago but was stock, do I need a heavier spring?

Yes, you need a heavier spring, H-350 springs will step up an M-450 for a bit more rpm, another way to do this is to remove the spring, and look at the spring holders in the governor, if the holes are not wallered out, just bend the spring tabs to tighten upthe spring tension. aint a permanent fix, but will give you a few more rpm. Thanks Chad, not wanting to do anything radical just a couple more horses. I use it on baler and other equipment. As I understand the stronger spring will also hold it at higher rpm longer when a load is encountered, is that correct? I have seen stronger springs advertised for these but the price seems rather stiff also.

Just go match up the stock spring with one with the same length as the MTA, but has just a bit heavier wire size used to make the spring, If you find the right one, good for 3 hp rite off the bat. Good luck!! Chad
