there is no such thing as a pull where a tractor with a TA is not allowed to pull..... lets just make everything legal and then you lose everytime.....i mean come on what kinda tractor can compete with a HD800 in an open class.....and i am sure the guys with the 800's would love to eat up some of them detriots

I don't think a guy should be able to shift his TA on any tractor except farm classes,Unless they let the guy with out the TA pull twice in that class using two different gears and take his best pull.

i did a little research on this subject and this is what i came up with.
here is a example.....
i asked a JD man that pulls antiques if he thought they should let the other boys use the TAs,he said hell yes!
i then asked him if he thought the field classes should be allowed to use the PS as he pulls a 4440 with PS and he thought that was OK too.
if you have it and no one else does it is tough for them,if you don't have it and someone else does, then it is not so neat anymore and we need a rule for that.

Because there are three or four different types of puller. There's the guy that wants to take his bone-stock Farmall "M" or John Deere "A" to a pull and expects to win. If he doesn't, he's p.o.ed, and wants everyone else to be as stock as he is, even if the rules allow things he didn't do. The next type is the win-at-all-costs guy that will cheat every chance he gets in order to get that $3 trophy, and gets p.o.ed when someone else is better at cheating than he is. Then there are the guys that stay within the rules but spend hours or days tweaking and tuning in order to maximize what they have, pull well and are satisfied with whatever place they get because they did all they could do. Then there's the guy that goes pulling with whatever he's got, gets to see some friends, and doesn't care if he wins. Types 3 and 4 are what it's all about, and types 1 and 2 ruin it for everyone else.

Redman you have a point, however I think what the actual rules try to do is prevent any make from having an unfair advantage. However, by the same note, I have seen instances where the TA's have actually caused a tractor to slip up earlier. Also, sometimes the sheer RPM of a Detroit causes an early spin out. So, in reality, I think that to prohibit any tractor that is within weight and is stock for the class would be self defeating.

If they really wanted a test of skill, one tractor, different drivers.

i just don't get it,it is supposed to be fun!
if the guys i pull with came with a bunch of rules like that i would leave mine in the shed.
to think, all of this over a $5 trophy.
